When the UAE was hit by heavy rain, thunder and lightning this week, many employees were told to stay at home rather than face potentially dangerous conditions travelling to work on flooded roads.

Just as private sector companies responded to the call for flexible working from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, so schools too turned to distance learning, with pupils not required to come in for lessons.
